OUR Policies
Diversity & InclusiVity Policy
The Wellington Pride Parade Trust is committed to hosting fun, safe and accessible events for the entire Rainbow/LGBTQIA+ communities to enjoy. We celebrate and support inclusive queer creativity and diversity.
Participants and event organisers should read and align themselves with this policy when partnering with the Wellington Pride Parade.
We welcome everyone who wants to join with us to celebrate the amazing diversity and creativity our rainbow communities have to offer. We look forward to coming together to celebrate the wonderful diversity in sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, and sex characteristics, during the Wellington Pride Parade.
Groups and individuals who wish to partner with Wellington Pride Parade, or participate in our events, must adhere to our policies.
Any person, group or organisation participating in our events must share in our kaupapa of protecting our communities, including protecting our most vulnerable communities identified as takatāpui, trans, non-binary and intersex. Any group who does not support the inclusion of these people, will not be allowed to participate in our events.
Scope
This policy applies to all Wellington Pride Parade employees, contractors, consultants, interns, volunteers, sponsors, Trustee members and anyone acting on our behalf or participating in the Parade in any capacity (float/entry participants, vendors, or event organisers).
Our annual parade provides a platform for our cultures to be authentically claimed and shared, raising visibility and awareness of our struggles and successes in the wider Aotearoa community.
This code adopts a positive, values based approach rather than prescribing a list of acceptable and unacceptable behaviour.
Policy
When working with, hosting or participating in events associated with the Wellington Pride Parade (Parade), you are expected at all times to act in the best interests of the Parade, its reputation and kaupapa. - Comply with all Parade’s policies, frameworks and processes as well as support the Parade’s strategic direction.
- Maintain a kaupapa of community, inclusivity and accessibility to all the wonderful variations in sexual orientation, gender identity and expression and sex characteristics (SOGIESC) of people and communities under the LGBTQIA+ umbrella, our whānau, allies and supporters.
- Ensure events/activities remain a safe space to celebrate our diversity without fear or discomfort.
- Provide no space, or platform for participants who are divisive, exclusionary or hateful.
- Take reasonable care for your own health and safety, and that your acts or omissions do not adversely affect the health and safety of others including event/entry participants and members of the public.

To ensure a safe event, all event organisers, entry coordinators, stall holders and other official participants are responsible for being aware of and adhering to the requirements of this policy. They are responsible to engage with, and if necessary, remove any participants of events who do not adhere to the kaupapa of this policy.
Public Statements & Confidentiality
In the course of your participation, anything you say may be perceived by others as a Statement made by the Parade organisation. You must always ensure that what you say is honest, correctly reflects the position of the Parade, and maintains a professional image.
Making disparaging remarks about staff, members, management, suppliers, stakeholders, or partners is unethical and unprofessional. We ask our partners and participants to not make disparaging remarks unless they have engaged with us first.
Treating Others With Respect & Valuing Difference
The Parade is committed to providing safe and uplifting activities.
All too often individuals and groups within our communities face discrimination, obstacles and challenges that deny, ignore or violate our human rights. The Wellington Pride Parade Trustees will not tolerate this behaviour towards any member of our communities at any events that are a part of, or associated with, the Wellington Pride Parade.
Equally, comments that are divisive, exclusionary or hateful towards people, groups or organisations within our community on any of our online or media platforms will be removed, and those participating blocked from Parade media and events.
Discrimination, harassment, bullying or degrading treatment will not be tolerated.

Participation Policy
The Wellington Pride Parade is an event that celebrates our city's culture and diversity. Given Wellington is the capital of Aotearoa and home to our country's political parties and ministries, we want to keep the parade an event of celebration, focusing on what brings us together, rather than what divides us.
Currently, the Trust has decided to encourage all Rainbow and Takatāpui people working for Ministries, to join the CARN (Cross Agency Rainbow Network) entry and march as a united group of Civil Servants who proudly lead and work across our government. We would ask that everyone in this entry wear non-uniformed or branded clothing, and no recruitment material be handed out. Some Crown entities would still be considered to walk under thier organisation brand.
Political Parties would also be encouraged to enter under a "Queer in Politics" entry that celebrates all the great Rainbow and Takatāpui members in our political parties. Again, there would be no branding, uniforms or recruitment material to be handed out.
